This weekend the Russell Gallery will present the second annual “Summer in the City 2” art exhibition. Featuring 18 different artists, this multimedia art exhibit showcases the work of Michigan’s most talented. The return of the summertime exhibition gallery will open with a reception on Friday, July 30 from 6 – 9 p.m.

Art critics, collectors and admirers are encouraged to visit the exhibit, which will be open every weekend until August 29. The exhibit is a unique collection of ceramic pieces, wood-cut prints, and sculptures. All pieces in the exhibit were selected based on their dramatic, edgy and contemporary feel. The detailed works are priced beginning at $40.

“Given the variety of styles, this show presents by far the best cross section of artists and talent in Michigan. We were absolutely blown away by high quality of art submitted in the open call earlier in the summer,” said gallery curator David Cole.

One featured artist is up-and-coming digital photographer, Sean McClelland. “Summer in the City” will be Sean’s debut exhibit. Visitors to the Russell Gallery will understand Sean’s rising success, as his photographs are absolutely captivating.

Alaxander Buzzalini, a local artist out of Monroe, Mich., recently displayed his work at the Wyandotte Art Fair and will have a booth at The People’s Art Festival, held at the Russell Industrial Center, in late August. Alaxander’s contemporary and lowbrow style will be a favorite for art collectors intrigued by surreal, fantasy landscapes.

The Russell Gallery is extremely pleased to be presenting this eclectic collection of talented local artists. The artists showcasing work in the “Summer in the City 2” exhibit include: Amy Kollar Anderson, Andrew Brewster, Alaxander Buzzalini, John Carlson, Alexander Corey, Matt Dolan, Kelly Fitzsimmons, G. Jesse Gledhill, Sean Hages, Jessica Jedwab, Sean McClelland, Robert Piatek, Serena Stoner, Damani Sudan, Barbara Svagr, Emily Whitehead, Joseph Young, and Julie Zager.

“Summer in the City 2” at the Russell Gallery will be open on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning July 30 and concluding  August 29. The Russell Gallery is located in Building 3 of the Russell Industrial Center, located off I-75 on 1600 Clay Avenue, Detroit, MI 48211.
