When I say that I'm excited to go see DJ Surab Deb and Kid Capri, I'm not kidding (no pun intended).
On Friday, April 30th, MGM Grand Casino (1777 Third, Detroit) will host both DJs at their sexy "V" nightclub, and I am READY to party! I talked to DJ Surab today and he said that he's bringing the hottest hip-hop music to spin for the evening. Jealous much?
Tickets are still on sale through Neptix.com with a limited number of $15 and $25 advance purchase tickets available. Tickets are $35+ at the door. I wouldn't advise you to wait much longer, though, as this WILL sell out. Check out doDetroit.com next week for a recap. |

May 1st is the day of reckoning for non-smokers across Michigan. You finally get your wish as the "Michigan No-Smoking Ban" goes into effect for all bars and restaurants statewide.
Don't think for one second that smokers are going to go down without a fight... On Friday, April 30th, from 7pm to midnight, The Ruth Ellis Center will host one of the biggest and most exciting bar nights in Ferndale--the Last Drag. The Last Drag, a one-mile walking pub crawl, will begin at the Loving Touch with patron check-in and a ticket purchasing station. It will travel northward along Woodward Ave., up to, and along, Nine Mile Rd., heading westward. To up the fun factor, fashion-forward drag queens will lead the charge at the top of each hour from one location to the next. Participating bars include Woodward Ave. Brewery (WAB), The Emory, Dino's Lounge, Como's, Gracie's Underground and The 9. Patrons are welcome to stay and go as they please--a list of bar locations and route will be provided for all participants. “I expect the Last Drag to become a signature event as the last-call bar crawl for smokers and party-goes to visit Ferndale’s favorite watering-holes before the smoking prohibition goes into effect on May 1”, said David Rudolph, Managing Partner at D. Ericson & Associates Public Relations and Last Drag spokesperson. Not only will this be a night of fun, but it will also be a charitable evening as proceeds go toward the Ruth Ellis Center. The Ruth Ellis Center’s mission is to provide short-term and long-term residential safe space and support services for runaway, homeless and at-risk gay, lesbian, bi-attractional, transgender and questioning youth in Detroit and Southeastern Michigan. Tickets for the event will be sold in advance for $10 and onsite for $12 per person through the Ruth Ellis Center. For more information regarding the Ruth Elis Center and the Last Drag please visit www.RuthEllisCenter.com or call (248) 867-6936. Gather your girls or guys and head over to Ferndale on Friday. The Last Drag is gonna give the proverbial finger to the next day's bar/restaurant smoking funeral. |

In Detroit, Spring is served and hot fashions are the entree. The International Academy of Design & Technology (IADT-Detroit) will host their 6th Annual IMAGINE Fashion Show, sponsored by Neenah Paper, Ambassador Books and Target Direct Marketing, at the beautiful Fox Theater on Wednesday, April 28 at 8 pm (doors open at 7:30 pm). IMAGINE will feature designer collections by IADT-Detroit students and a performance by 50s Motown group "The Contours, featuring Sylvester Potts." Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh will serve as Master of Ceremonies for this uber-glamourous evening. Can you say "good time"? Now in its sixth year, IMAGINE will feature designs within eight different (and very fashion-essential, might I add?) categories from more than 30 graduate level students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design program. With categories such as "Art to Wear", " Little Black Dress", and "Paper Designs", this show is sure to have some HOT fashions. “We’re thrilled to showcase Detroit and Metro Detroit’s talented student fashion designers,” said Julie Patterson, fashion design program chair at the IADT-Detroit. “Our students work extremely hard year-round to prepare for this special event.” Ticket prices for the event are $10 (General Admission) and $20 (Reserved Seating) and can be purchased at the Fox Theatre Box Office, Joe Louis Arena, Hockeytown Authentics-Troy, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000. In a world where fashion is seen as vain and pretentious, IMAGINE will break the mold. A portion of the proceeds will of to the Ronald McDonald House of Southeast Michigan. Fashion benefitting a great cause…there's NOTHING like it. The IMAGINE Fashion Show is a feast that is sure to indulge all who attend. Be there--you don't want to miss it! |
